Pro and amateur writers in Simcoe County are welcome to perform their original work in an encouraging environment. Poets, spoken word performers, rappers, comedians, song writers, motivational speakers and anyone who loves the magic of language is welcome to join us. We meet monthly at Unity Market in Barrie to read, to perform and to share our art. Each month we bring in a little extra inspiration in the form of published authors of all genres.
Featured authors are Dawna Proudman and Liisa Kovala .
Dawna Proudman is an artist, writer, editor and teacher of writing. Her “Just Write!” workshops often take the form of weekend retreats at a bed-and-breakfast spot near Durham, Ontario. She also presents evening sessions, and school-break activities for kids, involving papier mache, writing or food. Dawna is well-known as a creator of fabulous gourmet desserts, which are available at several restaurants in the Saugeen River watershed. Dawna’s debut collection of poetry, Elements of Grace is now available. She has recently been accepted as a member of the League of Canadian Poets.
