Since 1977, the Barrie Canoe and Kayak Club, has grown to an organization of 300+ paddlers who enjoy canoeing, kayaking, and stand up paddling.
This year, 2017, marks the 40th anniversary of the Club from its inception.
About the course: WFA is a two day practical and proven course for emergency preparedness. General medical concepts and Basic Life Support are taught. Recommended for all outdoor enthusiasts that venture into wilderness. Attendance is mandatory. Successful completion of a test leads to three year Certification. BCKC mandates the course for its Trip Leaders.
Typical Schedule:
Day 1: Registration, Introduction; Patient Assessment System; CPR; Circulatory System; Nervous System; Respiratory System; Fractures, Stable Injuries; Splints 1- Extremities; Electives
Day 2: Hyperthermia and Heat Illness; Near Drowning; Lightning Injuries; Wounds and Burns; Anaphylaxis; Lifting, Moving Extrication; Patient Carries; Backcountry Medicine
